Research Grant
PURPOSE OF THE RESEARCH GRANT AWARD
The UAE Cancer Congress 2012 research grant award strives to foster education and research in the field of oncology. The grant provides an opportunity to acquire important skills and begin to develop expertise as part of an academic career with a focus on Oncology. The mission of the grant is to develop the academic potential of the selected awardee by providing support for a one-year research grant that develops leadership and research. Selection of the UAE Cancer Congress 2012 research grant recipient will weigh equally the applicant qualification, the proposed research project, and the environment and opportunities at the institution that will host the fellow. One recipient per year is selected from the applicant pool.
This grant provides $5, 000 for a one-year research grant payable to the recipients’ institution. All applications must be submitted electronically.
ELIGIBILITY
THE APPLICANT
The candidate must meet the following criteria:
- Be no older than 45 years of age at the time of application submission.
- Be working in an academic institute.
- Have a mentor to oversee the research project
THE INSTITUTION
The recipients’ institution must meet the following criteria:
- Provide a letter supporting the research project.
- Have a track record of supporting research projects.
- Have a system in place to accept the grant money and supervise that it is being used appropriately for the grant project.
THE FINANCIAL AWARD
The UAE Cancer Congress 2012 research grant will provide a total of up to $5, 000 for one year. Detailed budgets will be required. Funds may be used to cover costs that are directly related to the project. Budget justification will be required when submitting the application. These costs are the responsibility of the sponsoring institution. Failure to meet the award guidelines or inability of the candidate to complete the term of the award shall result in the return of residual funds to the Congress. The congress will require quarterly reports of the project progress and the recipient will be expected to present preliminary results at the UAE Cancer Congress 2013.
DURATION OF THE AWARD
The award is for one year (November 1 2012 through October 1 2013).
GRANT REVIEW PROCESS
The Grants Committee is responsible for the review of all applications, and will make recommendations to the UAE Cancer Congress Committee regarding recipients. A scoring system considering the qualifications of the applicant and mentor, the research proposal and the institution will be assessed with the goal of funding applicants with the highest likelihood of becoming highly productive.
